About the Postgraduate Program in Education
- Program Background
PPGE/UNISUL, Master’s and Doctorate Degree in Education, recommended by CAPES in 2007 and 2019, respectively, consolidated its presence in the southern region of the state of Santa Catarina, in line with the character of Unisul’s community university, which hosts this course. In this connection, the Program constantly seeks to maintain, continue and, at the same time, expand the necessary theoretical-conceptual density of research carried out within the scope of the PPGE/UNISUL that has historically contributed to the consistent training of researchers. The importance that the PPGE has been assuming in the municipality, in the region, in the entire state and in the country stands out as a Stricto Sensu Post-Graduate Course that is responsible, since its recommendation by CAPES, for the expressive training of Masters in Education, compatible with quality standards, with a focus on research in Education.
From 2021 onwards, the Doctorate in Education course has gained prominence, through activities that are developed aiming at a broad scientific training with theoretical-methodological rigor, with view at developing research capacity and innovative power in the Education area. Thus, the main purpose of studies within the scope of the PPGE/UNISUL, the Master’s and Doctorate Degree in Education materializes; thus priority is given to quality standard research at national and international level consistently with the needs that appear in a special way in the Brazilian reality. Therefore, the Doctorate Course follows the same guidelines as the Master’s degree Course. However, it advances towards a scientific training expanded in a theoretical-methodological rigor in order to develop research capacity, innovative power in the field of Education. It is in the search for this theoretical-methodological identity that we intend to consolidate the Program.

- Master's Degree Course
Unisul’s Masters Degree in Education was created with the aim of meeting the regional and national demand for studies and research in this area. The course prioritizes the production of knowledge and the training of research professors. It is part of the construction of theoretical education reflection spaces and enables the understanding of the educational phenomenon in its insertion into the broader context, allowing for the necessary interpretation of reality.
This course contributes to the understanding of the educational issue in its historicity, totality and complexity in a Brazilian educational framework characterized by high illiteracy rates, low schooling rates and problems in teacher training at different levels and modalities of education.
The Masters in Education Course is a privileged locus to debate, question and reflect on the issues of the contemporary world, intervening in the processes of training teachers for higher education and researchers in education and teachers from other levels and modalities of education.

- Doctoral Course
Unisul’s Doctorate in Education degree was created with the aim of increasing the quality of research and knowledge production, necessary for the university to exercise its role in social development. It appears like another institutional space in the development of high-level research and training of researchers in the field of Education.
The course is characterized as a proposition that is necessary from a qualitative/quantitative point of view, ensuring the commitment to the production and dissemination of scientific knowledge, reinforcing the understanding that it is up to the university, within the rigor of its autonomy, to coordinate between teaching, research and extension.
In this sense, the Doctoral course appears like an institutional locus for training high-level researchers who can contribute in a range from production of knowledge, to the local, regional, national and international levels, getting structure according to the principles of interdisciplinarity, the flexibility and articulation between teaching, research and extension and articulation among the different levels and modalities of education.
The Doctorate in Education, by advancing from the perspective of quality, expresses its commitment to the scientific training of students and teachers for an increasingly qualified social intervention.
